President & CEO

Michael is the President and Chief Executive Officer at Rakuten Kobo. Driving growth, profitability and international expansion in a fiercely competitive market, he combines a passion for reading with a deep focus on the hardware and software experiences that can make a customer’s reading life better. A passionate and engaging presenter and commentator, Michael speaks internationally on digital media, publishing and mobile technology and has been featured in the New Yorker, Wired, Canadian Business, National Post, Globe and Mail and the New York Times.

Michael fa parte del direttivo di Kobo Rakuten dal 2009, anno in cui fu fondata. In precedenza, ha ricoperto il ruolo di Chief Content Officer. Prima di unirsi a Kobo, Michael è stato Amministratore Delegato fondatore della catena di rifornimento BookNet Canada. Inoltre, è stato co-fondatore della prima libreria online Bookshelf.ca, acquistata poi nel 1998 da Indigo Books & Music per formare Indigo.ca, per la quale ha ricoperto la carica di vicepresidente delle operazioni online.

Michael ha conseguito un master in Amministrazione Aziendale presso l'Università del Western Ontario.

Anna Giagkou - Chief Financial Officer

Anna Giagkou is the Chief Financial Officer at Rakuten Kobo, responsible for the company’s financial management and accountability, as well as guiding future growth. In her role overseeing the finance team, Anna oversees the financial strategy, performance, and growth across all business pillars.

Prior to joining Rakuten Kobo, Anna was the Chief Financial Officer at Cox Automotive Canada, where she was responsible for the development of financial strategies, supporting optimization of operations, managing and reporting finances and driving results across all lines of business. Anna holds a CPA, CMA designation and serves on a number of boards, including Senior Persons Living Connected (SPLC).

Trevor è Chief Technology Officer di Kobo Rakuten ed è responsabile della tecnologia innovativa alla base di tutte le caratteristiche del servizio mondiale di eReading offerto da Kobo. Coordina la prassi ingegneristica che provvede a tenere alto il livello di qualità e innovazione, senza mai perdere di vista i gusti e le esigenze dei lettori nell'epoca della lettura digitale. In passato, Trevor ha ricoperto la carica di Enterprise Architect, con il compito di delineare strategie facilmente attuabili, volte a favorire gli obiettivi aziendali in sintonia con le buone prassi del settore e garantendo altresì la massima affidabilità a livello di sviluppo e di funzionamento di tutte le architetture Internet di vasta scala.

Prima di unirsi a Kobo Rakuten, Trevor ha ricoperto vari incarichi per Infusion, dove ha arricchito la sua esperienza di consulente di fiducia grazie al lavoro svolto in numerosi mercati verticali, come il retail, il settore viaggi e hospitality e i servizi finanziari.

Dan ha conseguito una laurea di primo livello in Informatica presso l'Università di Ulster.

Marianne Hamilton is the Chief Marketing Officer of Rakuten Kobo. Responsible for the entire customer journey, from acquisition and retention to ebook, audiobook and eReader sales, she applies an integrated marketing discipline to deliver brand and business growth. Marianne is a dynamic leader and strong collaborator who motivates diverse teams toward improving reading lives, based on our core belief that life is better with books.

A communications professional with a certificate in media and advertising, Marianne worked agency-side doing public relations, social media and product marketing for several Fortune 500 companies. She also led Canada's marketing organization for Motorola during the advent of Android smartphones. Marianne joined Rakuten Kobo in 2012 to increase the company's marketing and sales impact through its global network of retail partners.

Jay Howard - General Counsel

As General Counsel for Rakuten Kobo, Jay develops and implements the company’s legal strategies. Along with his team, he provides guidance on global legal issues, identifies emerging trends, and ensures compliance with laws and regulation while managing risk and protecting the company’s interests. Jay offers legal and business expertise and support in decision-making processes, and he has deep familiarity with complex legal and industry matters.

Prior to joining Rakuten Kobo, Jay led legal functions at media and technology companies with both national and international presence. He holds LL.B. and B.C.L. legal degrees and various legal designations from industry groups.
